THIS year’s Somerley Park International Horse Trials promise to be highly memorable as the countdown to the London Olympic Games continues.

The event, on Wednesday and Thursday, March 27 and 28, is expected to attract a wealth of international stars to the picturesque Somerley Estate in Ringwood - the home of the Earl of Normanton

Organisers of the horse trials have confirmed a new three-year title sponsorship deal with property specialists Chesterton Humberts, which they see as a perfect alliance as they prepare to stage the first CIC2* International class event of 2012.

Joint organiser Suzie Cotterill, said: “This is a perfect match for Somerley and Chesterton Humberts, which has a deep understanding and a great deal of experience in the rural and equestrian world and have an international presence across five continents.

“We hope to have riders from all those continents entered here in the opening international of this Olympic year.”

David Pardoe, director of Chesterton Humberts’ Rural office in Salisbury, added: “We are delighted to be supporting such an important event in such a momentous year for this – and every - sport in the UK.”

Chesterton Humberts is a generous supporter of the equestrian world, sponsoring last year’s Burghley Horse Trials and top rider Emily Baldwin, a winner at Chatsworth International.

Somerley House’s heritage stretches back to 1750 while new sponsors Chesterton Humberts dates back to 1805.

There is likely to be a sparkling entry of British and international riders - Mary King (Rolex champion), Pippa Funnell, William Fox-Pitt are three probable Team GB Olympic contenders, who are again expected to be in action at Somerley.

Andrew Nicholson, Paul Tapner (Badminton 2010 winner) and Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks (Badminton winner 2007) are all top New Zealand and Australian Olympians, not forgetting the irrepressible Mark Todd the current Badminton champion.

On Tuesday there are Novice and Intermediate classes, when the event horses of the future will see if they can complete dressage showjumping and the challenge of cross country.

Wednesday sees the finale of the International CIC** with showjumping and the excitement of the cross country.

As well as the competitive action over the two days, visitors to the event can take in 25 countryside trade stands offering a wide variety of products for equine and leisure pursuits.

There is also a large public marquee with quality catering as well as a specialist marquee with a wide selection of the best of the local Farmer’s Market produce.

Admission is £10 per car (to include programme subject to availability). For more details visit: www.somerleyparkhorsetrials.co.uk
