AFTER a very successful 2011 campaign, Louisa Lockwood enjoyed an early 2012 season victory aboard Penultimate Vision at last weekend’s Aldon Horse Trials in Yeovil.

Bay gelding Penultimate Vision is highly regarded by the 33-year-old Winterbourne Stoke rider, who along with sponsor Sally Smith of SRJ Equine Laundry, were delighted when a good dressage of 27.7 left them in third place in the Intermediate Novice class behind Antoinette McKewann and Pippa Funnell.

An excellent double clear, along with time penalties of just 1.6 on the cross country section on Saturday, then saw them take the lead by just three points.

Louisa had been busy on Friday at the Somerset venue with three rides including Mrs Donald Birt’s Another Proposition, which finished just outside of the placings in the BE 100 class, and Jumbo’s Dream, which also jumped a double clear.

Sunday saw Louisa partner Laura Macfarlane’s Avocado in the Intermediate Class.

Thirteen-year-old Avocado, whose owner has just started at Bristol University, and The Diva had launched Louisa’s new campaign earlier this month at Tweseldown, both jumping double clears but closing just out of the placings.

This weekend will see Louisa head to Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire before competing closer to home next week at the Somerley International Horse Trials (March 27-28).

Louisa is currently looking for additional rides at any level and can be contacted at the Winterbourne Stoke yard on 07768 303492.
