SALISBURY Social Sea Angling Club got 2012 off to an excellent start with a great day’s fishing off Poole Harbour on Sunday.
A team of ten anglers took part on board Silver Spray 2 skippered by Sam Cumming.
The highlight of the day was Ian Hudson setting a new club and boat record with a monster 30lb cod; a remarkably impressive specimen for an inshore catch.
“We had a beautiful day and enjoyed a fabulous day’s fishing,” said club chairman, David Clay.
“Ian’s fish was a real beauty and a much larger fish than we expected to land.”
Other notable fish included a smaller 10lb cod caught by Joe Noke, a 6lb bass from Ian Hudson and a good selection of whiting and dogfish.
Ironically, David was the only angler to arrive back at shore empty-handed.
The club was formed in 2011 with the aim of combining socializing with some competitive angling.
The blend of fun and fishing has proved very popular and the club now boasts more than 50 active members.
Salisbury Social Sea Angling Club run monthly excursions and special events, with the next trip scheduled for this Thursday (February 2).
Limited spaces are available, but anyone interested in this excursion, or in becoming a member of the club, are invited to contact David Clay on 01722 421 337.
