SEVERAL of Godolphin School's lacrosse players on duty at the recent under 19s World Championships have caught the eye of talent scouts from universities in the USA.

The school boasted nine representatives at the tournament, held in Germany, featuring for either England or Wales.

Two, including the captain, Ruby Smith, helped England reach the semi-final stage where they exited to tournament champions USA.

Six others were in the Welsh side, which lost to eventual runners-up Australia in the quarter-final.

The school's other representative in Germany being Godolphin's coach Storm Trentham, who also coaches the Wales team.

Miss Trentham said: “The girls were a credit to their school and their countries and I was really proud watching the girls from Salisbury producing dominant performances on the world stage."

Wales were the tournament's top scorers - Amy Adams, Georgia Stanton, Lulu Buckley, Iona Dryden, Katie and Annie Butcher all playing their part as the country won all its pool matches before bowing out to Australia.

Iona had the highest draw controls overall and won Most Valuable Player in their game against Scotland, with Georgia MVP against New Zealand.

Ruby Smith, who left Godolphin at the end of her A Levels, was joined in the England team by Anna Featherstone, who was one of its youngest members.

Both scored against Canada in their semi-final tie, having also scored against the tournament winners USA in the pool stage.

Not many players scored against the USA in the tournament and Ruby was subsequently selected for the World All Star Team - nominated by the head coaches from each nation, together with the International Lacrosse Committee.

Of the 12 players selected, Ruby was its only European representative - six hailed from the USA, three from Canada and two from Australia.
