SALISBURY powerlifter Neil Arnold was in fine form to win his 82.5kg weight class at the British Powerlifting Championships held at the BIC in Bournemouth today.

Arnold, who had suffered a slight tendon problem in the build-up to the event, finished a comfortable 110kg ahead of his nearest rivial, equalling his best squat of 290kg.

He also bench pressed 17kg en route to securing his place in the British team for this year's World Championships, which are also being staged at the BIC.

Sunday sees fellow Salisbury powerlifter and world number two Paul Newell in action in the 100kg class.
