MARCH is proving a crucial month for Sarum Badminton Club, who are competing on a number of fronts.

Thursday evening sees the league team embark on the first leg of their Wessex Handicap Cup Final against Division One side West Grimstead A.

The contest, at Chafyn Grove Sports Hall, starts at 8.15pm and spectators are welcome.

The second and deciding leg will be a home tie on Wednesday, March 16.

Just 24 hours later on March 17, Sarum bid to retain the Fiddes Wiltshire County Cup when they face Swindon (Pinehurst) Badminton Club at Christie Miller SC, Melksham (7pm).

Swindon, who are looking to win back the title they have held for 16 of the last 20 years, have a team packed with star players including the former Croatian number one and other former national and top current county players.

Sarum won last year's final 8-1.

Sarum's team (provisional)

Chris Hotchen (Gloucestershire number one and Top ten England player)

Justin Andrews (Wiltshire number one doubles player and England over 40s singles number one)

Simon Woodhouse

Ali Marr (Avon number one and top 20 doubles and mixed player)

Nicole Webb (Avon first team player)

Alice Walters (Wiltshire first team player)
