SARUM Badminton Club have been crowned Fiddes Wiltshire County Cup champions after defeating holders and regular winners Swindon Pinehurst.

The Swindon side have won the competition 16 times in the last 20 years and Sarum’s success makes them only the fifth club to ever win the event - a superb achievement considering it only formed six months ago.

The final looked likely to be a closely fought affair with several games going to three set, however Sarum eventually ran out comfortable 8-1 victors.

Player manager Simon Woodhouse was kept out of the final through an achillies injury, however club member and current England top ten player Chris Hotchen stepped in to bolster the team.

Along with Chris all three of Sarum's Wiltshire County fisrt team players, Ben Caldwell, Justin Andrews and Alice Walters remained unbeaten in the final.

Bath University and Avon first team players Sarah Boyce and Nicole Webb narrowly lost in Sarum's only defeat against the defensively solid and consistent Emma Davies and Karen Dean, who performed exceptionally in tight three set win.
