SARUM Badminton Club cruised into the final of the Fiddes Wiltshire County Cup after a crushing semi-final success over top Mid Wilts outfit Chippenham 23 BC.

The 9-0 win matched their quarter-final scoreline over Swindon Raychem and featured some top quality play from players such as Ben Caldwell (Wiltshire champion), Andrew Kidger (Avon County champion), Ali Marr (Scotland and Avon County champion), Kelly Mead (England top ten), Alice Walters (current Wiltshire number one) and Simon Woodhouse (Wiltshire runner-up).

Woodhouse said he expects the final, against Swindon Pinehurst, to be a much tighter affair: "This should be a far tougher game, as they've had a stranglehold over the event in recent years. All their players are county first team players including Paul Hinder, the ex-England number two."

The newly-formed Sarum club are particularly proud of their achievement. and now contest the Wiltshire final on Thursday, March 18 (7pm) at Melksham's Christie Miller Sports Centre..

Woodhouse, who has done much to increase badminton's profile in the area in his job as youth sport development manager for the Wiltshire & Swindon Activity & Sports Partnership (WASP) praised all at the club,.

"Players at the club range from total beginners to national title winners and coaching for players of all levels is also offered.

"It is our first year and I'd like to thank all the support we've received, especially from local restaurant Rai d'Or."
