CITY of Salisbury athletes turned in an impressive showing at the weekend in the second fixture of the new Hampshire Road Race League season.

A total of 17 of the club's runners completed the Solent Half-Marathon with Salisbury's Stuart Holloway winning the event in a useful 1:13.40.

Ruth Thom was the first of the club’s women to finish – and the sixth woman overall – in a time of 1:31.25.

A week earlier, Stuart and Ruth completed the demanding five-mile Butser Hill Challenge, where Stuart took second slot in 32.09 and Ruth finished 21st overall (fourth woman) in 40.00.

Other Salisbury finishers at the Solent Half-Marathon were Nicholas Cooke, 1:29.07, Ian Lawrence, 1:31.32, Mike White, 1:31.54, Charlotte Ingram, 1:38.05, Sally Greenslade, 1:39.28, Richard Larcombe, 1:40.04, Joseph Cornwall, 1:42.20, Phil Perry, 1:45.58, Jonathan Kershaw, 1:47.25, Steven Mitchell, 1:48.29, Linda Robson, who managed a new personal best at the distance in 1:56.49, Elizabeth Roberts, 1:59.06, Christine Gorham, 2:01.52, Jane Whiteley, 2:07.56, and Colin Martin, 2:29.35.

Meanwhile, at the scenic Winchester Half-Marathon, which started and finished at the Guildhall, Di Cross and Norbert Weber finished in 2:15.20 and 2:21.29, respectively.

Further afield, James Welsh ran the Berlin Marathon, completing the course in 3:57.34.
