1934 Cricket. Don Bradman scores 149 not out against England. His innings lasts 104 minutes and included 17 fours and four sixes.

1937 Swimming. Australian swimmer Dawn Fraser, who won eight Olympic medals, is born in New South Wales. Three of her medals were gold for the 100m freestyle (1956, 1960 and 1964).

1949 Golf. US golfer Tom Watson is born.

1956 Swimming. Shane Gould, who won three gold medals at the 1972 Olympic Games, is born.
