REDLYNCH & Hale continue to find life in County Division Two a challenge and the trip to Sway showed just how competitive a league it is.

Electing to bat first, the visitors lost Ian Tanner cheaply, with Andy Soutar playing on the very next ball.

At 11-2 the writing was on the wall, although Ian Stevens, 15, and Kev Hopkins, 28, repaired some of the damage. But Jon Grasham had other ideas, accounting for both.

Dave Webber quickly perished without scoring and the innings was then reduced further as Jack Cobern, 14, and Jack Vincent, made their way back to the hutch enabling Grasham to return 5-33.

Skipper James Taylor struck a quickfire 16, but misjudged a sweep and was bowled. However, last wicket pair Russ Church, 18, and Ben Brown, 15 not out, added two priceless batting points to close out on 131.

With such a modest total to defend, Taylor tried to rotate his bowlers to make it difficult for the batsmen to settle. But although Brown got through Tim Noble's defence, the hosts were already half-way there.

Sadly for the visitors, there was no further success with the ball and Sway romped home courtesy of Alex Hall, 64 not out, and Tom Thorp, 24 not out.

The Woodfalls-based side finish their programme with two home games against sides above them and Taylor is well aware of a difficult run-in for his team, which is currently in 14th place in the table.

Meanwhile, a well below strength second XI were no match for high flying Whiteparish in Regional Division One (NW).

'Parish posted an impressive 250-3 with Paddy Le Count, 65, and  B. Orr, 68.

In reply, only Matt Truckle, 36, was able to get into the bowlers as Darby had a field day reaping 6-42 as the side capitulated to 80 all out.

The thirds' game at Hatchett Green was conceded by OT's and Romsey V just 90 minutes before the match as they were unable to raise a side.
