1948 Cricket. Australian cricketer Greg Chappell is born.

1961 Horse racing. Former jockey Walter Swinburn is born in Oxford. He rode Shergar to victory in the Derby in 1981 and also rode Derby winners in 1986 and 1995 and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1983.

1983 Golf. Hal Sutton shoots a 274 to win the 65th PGA Championship.
