WILTSHIRE County Cricket Club's poor run of results in the Western Division of the Unicorns County Championship continued when they suffered their third defeat in a row when going down at home to Cheshire.

The hosts won the toss at Devizes and asked Cheshire to bat.

Only 55 overs were possible on Sunday due to rain and Cheshire had reached 133-4 at the close - largely thanks to Calum Rowe's undefeated 83.

The next morning saw Wiltshire quickly start taking wickets including that of Rowe, who went having added nine to his overnight tally.

Jake Lintott took 3-45 and Joe King 3-49 as Cheshire closed all out for 197 in 75 overs.

In reply, Wiltshire started steadily with Billy Cookson scoring 24, Ashur Morrison 22 and Ed Young 26.

But from 48-1, a collapse saw nine wickets fall for just 70 runs as they were all out for 118 in 49 overs - leg spinner Jack Williams taking 7-47.

Cheshire were 65-5 in their second innings at the close of day two.

Wiltshire took two wickets in the first over of day three and Cheshire were soon 84-8 - Wadworth man of the match Tahir Afridi claiming 5-55.

However, they had progressed to 159 by the time Wiltshire had claimed the last two wickets, leaving them a target of 239 for victory.

This proved too much for Wiltshire's fragile batting and they were all out for 164 leaving Cheshire winners by 74 runs.

Jake Goodwin scored 32 and Neil Clark 33 with Jack Williams taking 5-53.

Wiltshire's final match is away to Shropshire at Bridgnorth, starting on Sunday, August 13.
