WILTSHIRE County Cricket Club suffered a heavy 222-run defeat in their three-day Unicorns County Championship match, Western Division against Berkshire.

Winning the toss on Sunday at Falkland CC, Newbury, the hosts chose to bat and made 311 all out in 69 overs - Euan Woods scoring 82, Andy Rishton 93 and Chris Peploe 60, while for Wiltshire Tahir Afridi took 4-58 and Joe King 2-44.

In their first innings, four of the top six Wiltshire batsmen reached double figures, but none scored 20 and by close of play they were 120-7.

The following day, Wiltshire managed to avoid the follow-on thanks to Billy Cookson , 33 not out, and Joe King, 11, who put on 34 for the last wicket to take the total to 172. Neil Clark top scored with 46 while Berkshire's Ollie Wilkin took 4-47.

With a lead of 139, Berkshire went for quick runs and were all out for 288 on the stroke of tea in 62 overs - Ollie Wilkin scored 69 and Chris Peploe 66 as Wadworth man of the match Joe King took 6-81 and Ed Young 2-105.

This left Wiltshire four full sessions to score 428 to win.

But by the close of the second day they had reached 146-6.

Berkshire wrapped up the contest on the final day, taking the last quartet of wickets in an hour as Wiltshire were all out for 205.

Neil Clark scored 40, Mikey Reynolds 48 and Tahir Afridi 42 as Tom Nugent took 5 for 48 and Chris Peploe 4 for 88.

Next up for Wiltshire is the visit of Devon to South Wilts CC's ground on July 16-18 (11am start each day).
