WILTSHIRE County Cricket Club's opening match in the Unicorns County Championship Western Division against Oxfordshire ended in a draw after falling victim to the weather.

Just 76 overs were played at Great & Little Tew in the three-day contest - all of these being on Sunday, the first day.

Oxfordshire won the toss and chose to bat.

The pitch was likely to prove tricky for batsmen and they were bowled out for just 95 in 42 overs - Wadworth man of the match James Arney returned excellent figures of  4-17 from 16 overs, while Jake Goodwin took 3-17 with both aided by some good Wiltshire catching.

Wiltshire also found runs hard to come by and at one point were 52-5. But an aggressive partnership between Jake Lintott, 23 not out, and Ashur Morrison, 16 not out, took the score to 91 for 5 by the close of the first day.

Unfortunately, due to the rain, no play was possible on Monday or Tuesday. (Points: Wiltshire 8 Oxfordshire 6).

Wiltshire's next match in the championship is against Dorset at Corsham (June 18-20)
