CITY of Salisbury’s Stuart Holloway repeated his high class second place of last year in the Netley 10k league race when on Sunday he finished in a fine 32 minutes and 52 seconds on the tail of winner Abdi Mahamed of host club Southampton AC.

Just 14 seconds separated the pair towards the end of the twisting, three lap course alongside Southampton Water, and Holloway had his quarry in sight for the final 600m to the line, but the gap proved unbridgeable.

Holloway started the day in third place in the Hampshire League’s men’s individual overall standings, and he could still improve on that in the final road league fixture of the year, the Lordshill 10k on June 25.

Peter Manning was next of the Salisbury club to finish in 42.45, and he was followed by Craig Murphy 43.26 and Steve Mitchell 44.46, these four comprising the men’s A team.

In the women’s event, Jo-Anne Gready made a welcome return to league racing with a good 43.30  the clock and with Mel Murphy 48.08 and Ali Holloway 50.02, this was the trio to score league team points.

Liz Roberts was next in 51.33 and Jane Whiteley completed the set with 52.59.

The men’s B team comprised Richard Larcombe in 45.17, Phil Perry 45.43, Jon Kershaw 46.12 and Jef Hutchby 50.45. Colin Martin made up the 14 strong squad with 62.21
