CITY of Salisbury athlete Aaron Wilson completed a five year marathon quest in style when producing his best ever run at the distance when taking part in the Tokyo 26-miler.

He crossed the finish line in an outstanding time of 2:33.47.

After starting in 2012 with a sub-three hour run in the world-class Berlin event, he decided he wanted to truly test himself against the highest level of competition elsewhere around the globe.

Since then he has single-mindedly put himself through the marathon mill at the sport’s biggest events in Boston, Chicago, New York and London before further enhancing his reputation yesterday.

Wilson won the Salisbury half-marathon last autumn as part of his build-up.

Meanwhile, on the track, in the England Athletics under 20s Championships at Sheffield, Jay Domoney earned further success competing for the indoor 1,500m title.

Running strongly throughout, he showed what a fine competitor he has become with the help of club coach Dave Amey, holding on to an excellent silver medal position to net yet another personal best and set a new club record of 3:53.92.

This latest performance places him fourth in the UK rankings – and he has already beaten two of those who stand above him in the tables.
