SALISBURY swimmer Phil Muspratt produced a five star performance at the Scottish National Masters Short Course Championships in Aberdeen in what was his last major competition before next month's European Championships.

Muspratt made a great start at the two-day event, staged at the Aberdeen Sports Village, by winning the 100m freestyle in a season's best time of 52.29 seconds.

On the second day of competition, he claimed two more golds in the morning session, winning the 200m freestyle and the 50m backstroke then secured his fourth and fifth gold medals of the championships when winning the afternoon's 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

His times in all three of his freestyle events has left him firmly on top of the UK rankings for his age group.

"I'm encouraged with my times from the weekend," he said. "My 100m freestyle was by far my best swim and it showed that I'm approaching the sort of speeds I was swimming before I got back in the pool last year after six months out.

"There's much to improve on, so my times will ultimately continue to drop. The Europeans are about four weeks away now so training will become very specific in the lead up to those before I taper ahead of London."
