TWO packed days of racing against the clock at Gurston Down Speed Hillclimb, takes place over this Father's Day weekend (June 20/21) when the Broad Chalke venue stages its latest summer fixture, the Spire FM Midsummer Speed Fest.

Saturday presents a pulse-quickening pool of Porsches contesting the Porsche Club Speed Championship with Pirelli, plus a full programme of competition prepared production cars, sports racing cars and single seater racing cars.

Sunday will feature a fabulous field of Ferraris contending the Pirelli Ferrari Hillclimb Challenge preceding the usual big field of production-based racers, sports racing and racing cars.

And as well as the four-wheeled competitors, the country’s top riders (and passengers) from the National Hillclimb Association will be wowing the crowds.

Local drivers feature prominently throughout the entry on both days. The staff from the Fieldfare Trailer Centre at Ford make their competition debuts this weekend in their lovely 1.6 litre Autotune Gemini kit car, as manager Mark Parrett and technician Jason Martin share the car for the weekend in the roadgoing specialist production car class. And on Sunday the boss, Jerry Bailey, an experienced hillclimb and rally driver, appears in his 1.1 litre Mallock Mk 14 in the up to 2000cc sports libre class.

Also entered in the roadgoing specialist production class is Gurston regular Adrian Lewis, who fields his rapid 1.4 Westfield Megabusa.

Steve Holley makes a delayed 2015 season debut in his well-known 5.2 litre TVR Griffith in the over 2000cc marque sports car class. Steve has some tough opposition on both days too.

Current joint leader of the Gurston Down Hillclimb Championship Stephen Moore goes in his Janspeed 2.0 Mitsubishi Evo 6 in the over 2000cc modified series production car class and he will be looking for clear class wins on both days to try and consolidate that points lead.

In the Historically Interesting class James Dean will field his rare 1.6 Raven 4WD single seater on Saturday only.

Probably the fastest local drivers over the weekend will be the Wilton Racing duo, Chris Cannell and Sue Hayes in their stunning new 1.3 supercharged Empire Evo, which runs in the up to 2000cc sports libre class. This amazing car has endured a few development gremlins thus far, but we can expect the team to get on top of these and start to fly.

And making his debut with a new car will be Tony Levitt, who will field his 1.0 Empire Evo single seater in the up to 1100cc racing car class.

Other Wiltshire drivers

Saturday’s Porsche class sees three Wiltshire drivers in action - Michael Brown from Swindon has entered his 3.0 Porsche 944; Donald Peach from Shrivenham will run his 2.5 Porsche 924s; and Justin Mather from Swindon will go in his 2.5 Porsche 924.

In the up to 2000cc marque sports car class Steph Limb from Malmesbury will join battle again in the family 1.8 MGF with her Mum, Dee Stapley, who lives not far away in Castle Cary.

Warminster’s Mike Butler fields his 2.0t Toyota Celica GT4 on both days in the over 2000cc modified production car class. And running in the same class on both days will be Trowbridge’s Mark Walker in his 3.9 Porsche Cayman S.

The Historically Interesting class also features Hugh Kemp from Wylye in his lovely 1.6 Palliser WDF3 ex-Formula 3 single seater, and Hugh could well challenge for the class wins here.

And running in the up to 1100cc racing car class will be Trowbridge’s Bradley Hobday in his 1.0 Jedi Mk 4, quite possibly aiming for a class win or two! He will be joined in that class by Murray Wakeham and Alan Joy from Warminster who share the former’s 1.0 OMS CF96.
