THERE were some good performances from the 21 Sarum Orienteers competing in round eight of the South West Orienteering Association’s Galoppen competition staged in woodland on the Rushmore Estate near Sixpenny Handley.

Ben Chesters (M35) finished third on the top Brown course at the event, organised by Wessex Orienteers.

Rob Ashton (M21) was fifth on the same course, while Gary Sawyer (M35) was ninth on the Blue.

Peter Hambleton (M70) finished first on Short Green, Dean Hodgson (M16) eighth on Orange and Max Duncan (M10) seventh on the junior White course.

With just one event to go in the Galoppen race series Ben Chesters, with 4,952 points (out of a maximum possible 5,000), and Peter Hambleton, 4,863 points, look set to win the Brown and Short Green courses respectively.

Sarum Orienteers (www.sarumo.org.uk) will be holding another taster and training session in Churchill Gardens on April 21, starting at 7pm followed by a social gathering.
