SARUM Orienteers took a small team and travelled to compete in the sixth event of the South West Orienteering Association Galoppen League at Cooper’s Hill close to the Benedictine Monastery of Prinknash Abbey, near Cheltenham.

The area has been newly mapped for orienteering and competitors enjoyed a sunny, if cold, day in rather muddy and slippery woodland.

Family honours were very much at stake on the day and Tom Butt gained second place in a highly competitive Blue course, beating Dad Jeff  (41st) and on the Green Course Hazel Cutler (27th place) beat her Dad Keith (50th).

On the Short Green course Charlotte Thornton (15th) beat husband Ricky (24th).

On the same course Peter Hambleton improved on last week’s runner-up position coming first, ahead of wife Joan (27th).
