HAMPSHIRE men’s over 55s squash team enjoyed a memorable start to their Inter County Championship Division One F campaign.
Handsome wins on Sunday against Dorset and Devon have put them eight points clear at the top of the table.
In their opening game against Dorset, they triumphed 20-1 – number one Barry Featherstone, number three Chris Wilson, number four Nick Holmes and number five David Harris all enjoying comfortable 3-0 successes.
Number two Paul Reader was the only player to drop a game.
Then, in their match with Devon, they secured a 16-8 victory, courtesy of wins by Reader, Wilson and Holmes.
Holmes, general manager of Salisbury City, is one of two members of the Hampshire side with strong footballing connections - Featherstone was a player with the Whites during the 1980s.
Earlier in the day, Devon beat Dorset 20-1.
