WRESTLING takes centre stage at Salisbury’s Five Rivers Leisure Centre this weekend when the Combat Sports Federation showcases some of the sport’s current stars.
Salisbury’s Tristian Hayes, who competes as The Anthrax Kid, has confirmed his appearance on an entertaining bill at the Hulse Road venue on Saturday evening, and says he will be giving his all to land a title in his home town.
Now in his 13th year as a professional wrestler, Hayes (pictured above) is eagerly looking forward to competing for only the seventh time on his own patch and knows that in Gideon – the all nations heavyweight champion – he faces a tough test.
“I've wrestled all over the world now with three tours down under and one to the States, but wrestling in Salisbury means so much more to me as it's where I first watched live wrestling when I was a kid,” Hayes told Sport4Salisbury.
“I've a tough opponent lined up on the 21st but if I can promise the people of Salisbury one thing it's this: You won't want to miss this match! I'm bringing everything I've got and I expect nothing less from my opponent.”
Hayes’ preparations have been hindered by a rhomboid injury in his left side, but he insists he’ll be fighting fit for the bout.
“Normally I’d train with heavier weights and swim a lot for my cardio, so I’ve had to rely on lighter weights and power walking.
“It’s a good match for me power-wise, so cardio is going to be important as I don’t want to blow up ten minutes in.
“I think I have the better mat-based technique, but I may have to make things more high impact to try and wind him before going for a pin, or better yet if I can make him submit I’ll know without a shadow of a doubt the title belongs to me as he quit.”
The full line up could also include Jeckle, Dave Mercy, Canno Tangoe, Gallowman, Alex Steele & The Pox, Urban Warrior, Faith and Lee Class.
The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 (adults) and £8 (concessions).
Doors open at 7pm.
Tickets are available in advance from Salisbury Tourist Information - ring 01722 334956 for details.
