LA Fitness’ squash teams have made a fine start to the new season.
Its first team enjoyed a second win from three starts with the demolition of the Southampton University team.
Straight games successes at the top of the order for Dorset champion and England over 35 number one Clive Ewins, Wiltshire champion Simon White, and county star Jason Pike ensured a comfortable victory.
Wiltshire under 19s’ James Ryan secured a five game win at number five with their only loss being at number four when Mark Hurd went down narrowly in five games.
Meanwhile the second string chalked up a closely fought victory against Fair Oak of Southampton to make it two wins from four matches.
Against a side who came down from the Premier Division, LA Fitness acquitted themselves well with up and coming junior player Alex Cope securing a solid win at number five.
At the other end of the age range, England over 55s player Stuart Hardy, recorded a shock win over former nationally ranked Martin Greenslade to set up a thrilling decider.
At number one James Ryan lost the first game 0-9 to the hard hitting Damon Chase, but fought back to control the match and win 3-1 with some excellent play under pressure.
The club’s third team have languished in Division Four for a while but strengthened by the senior teams having more players, they have made a dream start with four wins in a row.
Against Abshot, captain Colin Cook and Chris Hiles put their team ahead, but Steve Beasant went down in a close contest.
John Swain and Barry Featherstone secured the victory with convincing wins to make it 4-1.
LA’s womens’ teams have also been in fine form.
The firsts, topped by Hampshire champion Bev McKay, beat Alton 5-0 to make it two wins from two matches - only Stephanie Everard was pushed, winning 3-2 at number two string while Army player Chrissie Arrowsmith and Ros Hursell both won in fine form.
The seconds have also been very dominant with four wins from their first four matches - the latest being a 5-0 demolition of Fitness First Fareham with 3-0 wins for Ceri Stannah, Fiona Downs, Julie Palmer and Anne Marie Perry.
At top string Jill Hall had a real battle but come through in five games to secure maximum points.
