SALISBURY has gained two new Wiltshire Schools Cross Country champions and no fewer than eight qualifiers for the National Championships after some impressive performances at Chippenham.

Alex Mundell was crowned county champion for the senior girls and was delighted to be joined on the podium by City of Salisbury A & RC team mates Emma Clarke in second and Florence Powell third. The trio’s success securing them places at the nationals in Derbyshire in March.

Hermione Seymour lived up to the potential she has shown for years to win in the Intemediates’ race, while Jaymee Domoney took a respectable fourth in the juniors, just ten seconds behind the winner.

Heidi Porter finished ninth in her first year as a junior, with Rachel Lang taking fifth in the same race.

Alex Vandyk’s fifth place in the seniors and Gio Downie’s matching fifth place in the inters also assures them selection for the national finals.

Other notable performances were produced by Morgan Ringwood, 26th in the minor girls, Josh Hole 28th in the minor boys, Claudia Downie 12th and Jess Hall 13th in the junior girls, Jack Bennett 25th in the junior boys, Chris Smith 19th in the inter boys and Taylor Oakley eighth in the minor boys.
