TWO Godolphin School students – both named Rebecca - will undertake a charity cycle ride from London to Paris this weekend.
Lower Sixth girls Rebecca White and Rebecca Whitworth, who have called themselves Team Becca for their cross-channel jaunt, admit neither are usually known for their sporting achievements, but were inspired to help raise funds for JDRF into diabetes research by Chloe Whitworth – Rebecca’s sister.
The pair have been in training for their fundraising adventure and leave London on Friday, aiming to be in the French capital on Sunday.
“This is quite an undertaking as we are not known for our athletic abilities,” said the girls via their fundraising page.
“So why are we doing it? On June 1, 2007 Becca Whitworth's sister Chloe was diagnosed with type one diabetes. This is a horrible disease and we have watched her having to inject herself with insulin many times a day and cope with the daily round of blood glucose testing and the complications of hypos.
“There is currently no cure for the disease and without this daily management she would become seriously ill and develop life threatening complications.
“The two of us have watched her cope with this with no fuss and we have a huge admiration for her. We are fundraising in order for more research to be done to find a cure for this disease.”
