WITH no fewer than four first team regulars unavailable, the home meeting for Redlynch & Hale against Bournemouth II was always going to be tough.

The Dorset side won the toss and with their strongest line-up for some weeks available, they soon set about the home bowling.

Ben Brown did manage to trap James Hardy in front for seven, but that was to be the only bright point of the afternoon.

Andy Hayward, 95 not out, and George Wilson, 97 not out, then carried their bats, both just missing out on deserved centuries.

The home bowlers toiled away, but by tea there was a total of 235 on the board.

Bournemouth's attack was in the groove straight away with Chris Bolton (2-27) and James Palmer running through the order with their tails up.

Ian Tanner went without scoring, soon followed by Ian Stevens.

Andy Soutar tried to dig in, but was caught after 22 balls faced.

Jon Hatchett fell to Palmer for another duck, but Rhys Williams at last showed some resistance with a dogged 22 not out as partners came and went at the other end.

James Taylor attempted to attack and struck two powerful boundaries, but was bowled by Pack for nine. Palmer took the final two wickets in his last over, finishing with a very impressive 7-17.

Next week is the final league game of the season and

Taylor knows his men have to perform better in next weekend's season finale but their opponents couldn't be any tougher - league leaders Parley.

Meanwhile, the club's second string also tasted defeat, although its game away to Southampton Community, proved a closer-fought affair.

The visitors advanced to 107 all out with young Marcus Kimberly top scoring with 35.

But the hosts overhauled the target for the loss of six wickets with an exceptional spell of bowling by George Hayes, who returned figures of 9-3-4-9.
